Short Profile
The choir was founded in 2009 at the German Christuskirche in London. Currently the full choir consists of around forty singers from different nations who share a common interest in music as well as the German language and culture.
The focus of our rehearsals – besides getting the right notes – is on expression, language and historical appropriate musical interpretation. The repertoire is predominantly German music.
As we strive to develop the musical abilities of all our members, singers not only have the opportunity to sing in the full choir but also in our more demanding chamber choir or in the even more challenging environment of solo ensembles. You want to know more details? Please go to our Ensemble page.
Besides working towards performances in churches and concerts, the choir is also available for private hire and company events. Depending on the occasion we can provide music ranging from intimate a capella pieces to the bigger oratorios. We go on tour regularly to foster cultural exchange with other international choirs. In May 2010 we toured to Paris.
Under its musical director Barbara Höfling the choir gave its first concert in Autumn 2009 with Vivaldi's Gloria and music by Mendelssohn, Schütz and Schumann. This spring/summer we teamed up with the Paris Magnificat choir to stage Brahms' Liebeslieder Walzer in Paris and London. We will also sing on several occasions for the 150th anniversary celebrations of the German YMCA. Amongst other venues we will sing in the German embassy. This year's Christmas concert will centre on the music of Mendelssohn and Bach.
